As kids, most of us were introduced to trains by books like "The Little Engine That Could" or shows like Thomas the Tank Engine. These were great...but they didn't teach you very much about the railroad.

However, Joyce Robinson is changing all of that. Starting her career with Conrail in 1977, she worked as a Block Operator, Brakeman, and Locomotive Engineer before retiring with Conrail successor Norfolk Southern.

Today, she is helping raise the next generation of railroaders with her line of children's books that combine great stories with railroad basics that will help young people want to learn more. We have been lucky to get to know Joyce in recent years, as she and All Things Trains are regular exhibitors on the Greenberg's Train & Toy Show Circuit.

Oh, and the books in the photo? They have been donated to Tears of a Mother's Cry, a Baltimore, MD-based charity that helps mothers who have lost children to violence in Maryland's largest city. On December 13th, they will be wrapped and gifted to the surviving children of these families during the organization's annual Christmas event.
