BNSF Releases Position Paper on UP-NS Merger

The BNSF Railway released a position paper on the proposed Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern Merger. Key points include the belief that UP-NS would "control 45% of total U.S. tonnage," and eliminate 300 intermodal lanes. Since the publication of this paper, Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena has refuted the claims on intermodal lane closure.

What are your thoughts? Will there be a wholesale intermodal lane closure as a result of UP-NS? Will such closures lead to new growth in joint service by competing carriers and partnerships with shortline and regional carriers? Or are these 'doomsday' scenarios accurate? See the paper below.
