The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, better known as Amtrak, has named William "Byl" Herrmann to serve as Interim President when current President Roger Harris leaves office on July 31, 2026. Herrmann comes to the role after 27 years with the company in various roles, including law and Human Resources.
Harris has served as Amtrak's President since 2022, following the departure of predecessor Stephen Gardner. His tenure has marked the introduction of the Acela II, continued deliveries of Siemens Charger and Venture cars, the merging of the Silver Star & Capitol Limited to create the Floridian, introduction of the Mardi Gras service between New Orleans, LA and Mobile, AL, and the opening of the new Portal Bridge and approaches in North Jersey on the Northeast Corridor Line.
