On Saturday, June 13, 2026, All Things Trains will be at the Maryland Toy Expo from 8am-5pm at the Maryland State Fairgrounds (2200 York Rd.) in Timonium. We will be have plenty of awesome model trains and railroadiana for sale including:
- HO scale Athearn Special Edition set of EMD F7A locomotives painted for the United Railroads Historical Society's 1990s-era "Lehigh Valley" 576 and 578. The prototype, former C&NW, locomotives ran on New Jersey Transit and Cape May Seashore Lines, bringing Lehigh Valley's famous Cornell Red paint scheme to a new generation of railfans, many of whom never saw one of the LV's own F-units in action. Our set, which includes one powered and one dummy unit, manufactured using the long-tenured Globe/Athearn tooling, appears to be new, in their original box, which includes an insert about the history of the prototype units, that are now part of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum collection. - A custom painted set of HO scale Nickel Plate Products Dispatcher Special California Zephyr passenger cars. This set of Samhongsa-built, brass passenger cars has been custom painted to represent the present-day VIA Rail Canada diner and Skyline Coffee Shop cars used on the Toronto-Vancouver Canadian, complete with Canada logos. These cars are in amazing shape and come in their original box...however, while their paint is great, they are not exact replicas of the Budd-built cars built for the Canadian Pacific to equip the Canadian and Dominion streamliners. These cars ARE CZ cars, and if they don't sell, our Chairman will make them part of a CZ or Denver Zephyr consist. However, if you can accept some differences over the prototype, these cars would look great behind a set of VIA-painted F40PHs, or even FP9s, which could represent any of VIA's long-distance trains from the 1990s-present. - HO Scale Atlas EMD FP7, wearing the Southern Railway's Bill Brosnan-era "Tuxedo" paint scheme. In partnership with Roco of Austria, Atlas had two production runs of the EMD FP7 diesel, which was a welcome addition to many layouts, which could easily obtain HO scale models of the 50', 8" F7A, but not the FP7, which is four feet longer to accommodate larger water tanks. This particular locomotive has the shell from the 1990s run, plus the frame and drive of the 1970s model. It will make a quick addition to any home layout and we understand the 1970s-era version is much easier to convert for DCC due to the motor already being isolated from the frame, while the 1990s run required additional steps to accomplish this. That, together with good paint and Kadee couplers makes this a great purchase for any model railroader. List Price: $50
- Vintage El Capitan Set: The AT&SF's El Capitan is one of the most famous trains of the pre-Amtrak era. For most of its life on the Santa Fe, the train was pulled by the road's famous red, yellow, black, and silver-painted Warbonnet F-units, and consisted of Budd-built "Hi-Level" double-deck passenger cars. We were able to find a set of Fleischmann "shorty" Hi-Levels, which were originally sold as a set which included ALCO FAs, wearing the Warbonnet scheme. We have paired the cars with an A-B set of Tenshodo EMD F3A locomotives. Both the A and B units are powered, and while their drive system could use some TLC (open up the trucks and oil the gears, plus clean up the motor), they do run, which is notable for models that may date as far back as the 1960s. Both the locomotives and cars have good paint, though the cars would benefit from a craftsman willing to put in some time to make either body-mounted installations of knuckle couplers or on the existing talgo-style truck mounts.
