On Thursday, July 16th, Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis J3 4-8-4 #576 was fired up for the first time since 1952. The engine became the latest large steam locomotive to become operable since 2010, including N&W J-Class #611, Union Pacific Big Boy #4014, two Reading T-1s (2100 and 2102), and AT&SF #2926.
NC&St.L #576 is the sole survivor of its class, spending decades in the Music City's Centennial Park after being donated by the carrier. Her future is now as bright as the flames in her firebox and stay here at All Things Trains for continued coverage of her restoration.
