Don’t Make Me Turn This Big Boy Around!!

One fan of Union Pacific's Big Boy had a very, very bad day. The Facebook page Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad w/Jason Asselin shared video of a hapless fan who stood next to the rail as the Big Boy and her train were approaching during its Eastern tour. After bringing #4014 and her consist--which included Union Pacific's Abraham Lincoln-painted EMD SD70MAC and three of Norfolk Southern's America250 locomotives--to a stop, engineer (and head of Union Pacific's steam program) waved the individual over before...letting him have it for his stupidity.

Let's not forget that it wasn't that long ago when an individual doing something similar lost her life, being struck by UP FEF-3 #844 during an excursion between Denver, CO and Cheyenne, WY. That public excursion no longer runs, and it's not surprising that many railroads are reluctant given that incidents like this can lead to higher insurance and staffing costs at best, and major lawsuits should these individuals get injured or killed.

Watch the video linked below, and please share it with anyone you know who thinks it's reasonable to stand too close to the tracks, even if you're taking pictures.
