April 1, 2026 was Conrail's 50th Birthday. Few railroads have been as consequential as the eastern railroad giant that was known for blue locomotives, fast intermodal trains, a unique "can-do" attitude, and a battle for control that led to its second act: a multi-city terminal railroad supporting southern rail giants CSX and Norfolk Southern.

Conrail's legacy continues to be written with not only each train it operates, but those of every carrier--large and small--that travel America's railways. Rather than the U.S. following the path of much of the world in nationalizing railroads, our country actually touched off a privatization movement that blossomed around the world for a season.

We will spend the month of April talking Conrail, its predecessors, and its future on this site and the All Aboard Podcast. We want to hear from you: your Conrail stories, thoughts, and even railfan pictures that you would like us to share. Email us here (info@allaboard.media) and we will include your info with our coverage.

Happy 50th Birthday Conrail, and here's to many more!
